About Us

Introduction

Hello! Mike here from Marion, IA, USA. As I sit here writing this "about us" page, an RV-10 empennage kit with my name on it is in the back of an ABF freight truck somewhere between Oregon and here, scheduled to arrive in just a few more days. I'm a little nervous about the endeavor Sarah and I are about to embark on, but mostly thrilled that we pulled the trigger and it's actually happening. We created this blog with a couple intentions-- first, we'd like to do the best we can to follow in the footsteps of those who paved the road before us and shared their build experiences online. We've been lurkers on VAF for quite some time now, and been to all the popular builder's sites including Tim Olson, Brian & Brandi Unrein, Ed & Colleen Kranz, Justin Twilbeck, Brian Steeves, and Mouser, just to name a few! We intend to do the best we can to document our own build for all to see and comment on, including all the inevitable ups and downs that will surely occur repeatedly throughout the process. Second, and perhaps most importantly, we hope to use this blog to stay focused and motivated on the task at hand: there are several years of building ahead of us, and we recognize that it may be difficult at times to keep pressing onwards with such a giant mountain ahead to climb. Hopefully, this blog will keep us marching along :-)

Places We've Been

Even though the plane isn't built yet, we've both had a fair amount of time flying rental planes around the country. A couple big trips, including one out west to Yosemite National Park in 2013, and out to Washington, DC in 2014 are responsible for most of the coverage away from our home area so far. We hope to hit every state (except HI) in the -10!
